This is where our journey began. We are looking towards the north while standing in the parking lot of the visitors center. To see the other side of the mountain, click here. |

Just off the right edge of the above picture is the start of the trail up the mountain. Information is on the board in front of you, water fountain to the right of the signs and the last bathroom stop is off to this pictures right. |

Tour guide (and sometimes "fun time" director) Jerry is pointing out some vegetation at the start of the trail. Is it poison ivy??? |

Here is part of our group going up the winding trail. |

On the way up, you can see Bear Butte Lake. Beyond it lies Sturgis and the Black Hills of South Dakota. |

Co-directors Jerry & Harlan lead the group up to the first summit. The complete ascent took about 90 minutes. (Notice how black some of the trees look?!?!?! A fire went through here about 3 years ago.) |

The group takes another of its many rest stops on the way up. In the foreground is the plant known as living toilet paper-because the leaves are so soft and large. (Nobody had to use it!!!) |

Taking a few minutes for a Kodak moment. |
